Avery "D"

How much cake is too much cake? The question is on NEFC minds as letters continue to roll in with Avery earning his D, his second letter within the month. He won the Halloween Open in Louisville, also marking his first championship. Overall an outstanding weekend. Gideon joined him at the event and both fencers made their respective weapon finals with Gideon bringing home a silver. The local events are adding to the fencers' experience, and we are now tracking those on the app. If you're looking for your next stop, always talk to Coach; there is a youth and women's event on 11/7 at NAF here and also events coming up in Atlanta, Memphis, and Birmingham. Breakthroughs in the Boro

NEFC fencers competed in the Nashville Challenge with many demonstrating outstanding accomplishments. NEFC fenced 182 bouts and exchanged over 2000 touches! The big milestones include performances by Lee Queener who earned two top 8 finishes and earned his C26 rating both times while also passing 100 lifetime wins (see the cool new badge on his profile). Avery also earned his first rating, an E26, from his 10th place foil finish. Lee, Amberly, and Evan Liu each brought home 2 medals a piece while Lee, Lex, and Amberly brought home 3rd place podiums and Aiden Lee advanced to the foil finals finishing 2nd. Check out the recap on the tournaments section of the app, consider uploading and annotating videos, and if you passed milestones big or small, consider connecting to your fencer on the app and recording the progress in their scrapbooks. Elite Challenges at OctoNAC

5 fencers competed in the October NAC, the first national event of the season and the introduction of the new challenger and elite competitive divisions. Without a doubt, I think we can agree that every match at the NAC level is highly competitive, and the new elite division just concentrated that further. Nonetheless, our fencers had many successful moments and even had a chance to reconnect with old training partners (Hi, Mariasole!). You can see some summary information in the new tournament recaps section inside the tournament tab. Some of us also took some chances to enjoy the sites, which is another important part of the competitive journey. Definitely plenty of work to prepare for November NAC as the national season gets into full swing!

C is for Cake and Celebration and Conquest

The fencers continue to have a strong start to the season. Evan Liu, Austin, Gideon, Lee, and Andrew traveled to the Lotus Cup in Myrtle Beach and had many fantastic matches. While there, Evan finished in the Top 8 in the Cadet Foil event and earned his C26. This makes him the second C this month, alongside Veer, and the first Div 1 level foil fencer in the club in some time. It has been a very exciting month and with the growing club strrength, we can look forward to more, especially with fencers fueled by cake!

From the Mountains to the C

The travels fencers were out again this weekend. Veer, Ved, Lex, and Madeline headed to the Air Force Academy while Lee battled the competition in Virginia Beach. Each fencer took on multiple events and gained valuable experience. Ved, Veer, and Lex brough home medals from the Academy, and Veer finished 3rd in the Cadet Event earning his C26, which is a fantastic achievement. Next weekend a group heads to Myrtle Beach as we continue to criss cross the coutnry while crossing swords with top athletes from all over the US.

Bigger in Texas

Lots of exciting fencing in Fort Worth at the first SYC and first travel tournament of the year. The Texas-sized highlight is that both Evan's made the T32 in the Y14 which will give them national points and a place in the Y14 national ranking when they next update. Congrats to the developing foilists! In addition to the national success, a couple of new milestones were also reached; Gideon will move past the 200 all time wins mark and Lex eclipses 700, highlighting the work and time the travel fencers have put in. The fencers also came back with lots to practice at the club as they learn and reflect on close and tough bouts to start the season.

Open Season

The fencing season has begun in TN with NEFC fencers in action on August 9 and back at home for 2 events on August 16. At the NEFC Season Opener, our fencers captured 7 of the top 8 spots across the open epee and foil events. The events featured a number of close and challenging matches both among our fencers and against visiting competitors. Congrats to everyone who competed. Definitely looking forward to an exciting season!
